Planning a Wedding in South Florida?
Wedding Planning TIPS
1. What is Important to You?
2. What is Important to Your Guests?
3. What do you want People to Remember about Your Wedding?
The answers to all three questions are probably not the same. Think about them as you plan your day.
Make a plan!
Create a Budget
Use my budget tool, which breaks down all the categories for you.
Shop around!
You should get at least three quotes for items you are looking to purchase. Don't feel pressured into buying from the first store/vendor. Remember to negotiate.
Get it IN WRITING...
For your big purchases, get the item under consideration ordered using a contract. Specify the terms of both you and the service provider. Outline penalty clauses If a store will not sign a contract with you, maybe you shouldn't buy from that store.
Keep Your Receipts!
Hopefully you won't need them but...
Delegate
Use checklist and a wedding planning software when you do your wedding preparation and have people help you out. Remember, people are usually more than willing to help out, so take advantage of it.
Check and Double Check
Ensure what you have ordered and the quantities are correct. If you are having invitations printed, make sure you order extra as it is more expensive to do a partial order later.
Beware the small stuff
These are the "oh this is cute" $50 purchases that you never end up using. Make your plan, decorations etc., before you purchase your items.
It doesn't take very many small purchases to add up to a big expense. To avoid the extra expenses, buy favors and accessories online and avoid the stores they sell similar items!
Use a Wedding Planning Program
Get the most out of your planner as possible.
You can do everything yourself that is on these planners, right?
Of course you can, but here's the catch.
Something called the time value of money. There this easy and user-friendly wedding planner software, I recommend to use from the day of your engagement to save time for yourself!
New Trend Weddings
Wedding Planning
Tip #1 Express yourselves...
The old way: Doing things the way parents would like.
The new trend: Designing a wedding that's uniquely yours.
Incorporate elements of your favorite hobby you share or your cultural heritage into the big day.
Wedding Planning Tip #2 Make the day about the people who matter to you...
The old way: Not recognizing many of the faces at your fête.
The new trend: Tailoring your guest list to reflect the true VIPs in your life, whether that's 20 people or 200.
Gone are the days inviting everyone you know.
Celebrate with the people they really care about you , those who will still be in their lives 15 years from now!
Consider having an intimate wedding with your family and closest friends!
Wedding planning tip #3 Get guests mingling...
The old way: Sit-down dinners with guests in assigned seats.
The new trend: Encouraging friends and family to move around freely.
Open seating, where guests choose where and with whom to sit
It's a great way for guests to meet and get to know others
Just be sure to place "reserved" signs on tables where you and your groom, the bridal party and both sets of parents will sit.
That way, the major players are guaranteed a special spot.
Wedding Planning Tip #4 Have a ball at your own party!
The old way: Being "on duty" and spending the entire reception greeting guests and posing for pictures.
The new trend: Enjoying every minute of your once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
Take as many of your "posed" photos as possible before the ceremony, so that you can attend the cocktail party along with everyone else.
Yes, that means you'll have to see your groom before you walk down the aisle. Many couples find it thrilling to spend a private moment together before the ceremony. It's their chance to bond for a few minutes and say, "Wow, today's the day!"
Wedding Planning Tip #5 Get creative with your décor...
The old way: Settling for old wedding standbys like pink or white tablecloths and floral centerpieces.
The new trend: Dazzling partygoers with sophisticated, even surprising, details.
When you're planning the color scheme, think beyond basic pastel pink or blue and try one of these chic combos: chocolate brown, beige and sky blue; grass green and white or cream; or apple green and hot pink.
For your centerpieces, instead of having bunches of flowers arranged in glass vases, consider placing one or two solid-colored blooms in three small, geometric-shaped, colorful containers on each table - the look is sleek and sophisticated.
Or, forgo flowers altogether. Ask your florist to fill bowls with exotic fruit, or arrange to have pillar candles of varying heights placed at the center of each table; you can scatter confetti or jelly beans around those groupings.
Today's couples are also doing a lot more with lighting, which makes a huge impact.
Spotlights placed underneath tables covered in filmy, light-colored cloths will make the tables appear as if they're floating.
Wedding Planning Tip #6 Take your show on the road...
The old way: Believing the bride's hometown is the "only" place to tie the knot.
The new trend: Having a destination wedding in an exotic location.
A hometown wedding can be beautiful and have a lot of sentimental appeal.
But the new trend, to pick places that have personal significance to them.
It might be the spot where they met or got engaged, or a place they've always dreamed of visiting together.
Other couples dream of exchanging "I dos" barefoot in the sand-on a Hawaiian or Caribbean island, for example.
Whatever destination you choose, think about what the locale has to offer your guests:
Are there gorgeous beaches, lots of sightseeing options or plenty of nightspots to keep them entertained? Be sure to factor in how easy it will be for the majority of your guests to travel there, whether by car or airplane...
